SERP Preview Tool

Compare an illustrative desktop and mobile organic result, inspect Unicode-aware text metrics, and copy clean metadata without sending a URL or draft anywhere.

There is no fixed Google title or meta-description character limit. Search can rewrite title links and generate query-specific snippets from page content. These local width models are review aids, not screenshots or display guarantees.

Snippet inputs

All fields are optional for previewing except the page title required for copied metadata. Display whitespace is collapsed in previews and output.

Google may select other page or link text for the title link.
Google may instead show page text that better matches a query.
One displayed grapheme, with a separate 64 UTF-16-unit safety ceiling; not an uploaded favicon.

How to use a SERP preview responsibly

  1. Enter the page’s real URL, preferred site name, proposed title, and description.
  2. Compare both device models and treat estimated clipping as a prompt to front-load meaning, not as a hard SEO rule.
  3. Check that the title and description accurately distinguish this page and match visible content.
  4. Copy the escaped metadata, publish it through your site’s normal head-template workflow, then inspect the indexed page and actual query-dependent results.

What the measurements mean

A character count alone cannot predict display width: “WWW” and “iii” occupy different space, while emoji and combining sequences complicate the idea of a character. This tool reports UTF-16 storage units and, where supported, Intl.Segmenter grapheme clusters and words. Without that API, every affected metric is relabelled as a Unicode code-point or token fallback rather than being called a grapheme count. It also measures a declared local Arial-like font with Canvas.

The desktop model uses a 600px one-line title and two 600px description lines. The mobile model uses a 330px two-line title and three 330px description lines. Those are transparent comparison settings, not Google-issued limits. If Canvas is unavailable or throws, the tool reports the width estimate as unavailable rather than guessing.

Titles, snippets, and automated selection

Title links

Google can use the HTML <title>, visible page heading, other prominent page text, og:title, and link text to create a title link. Keep those sources accurate and consistent. Avoid vague, obsolete, boilerplate, or unnecessarily verbose titles.

Snippets

Google says snippets are primarily generated from page content and can change by query. A useful, page-specific meta description is a suggestion, not a command. Google publishes no fixed meta-description length limit and truncates snippets as needed for the device.

Read the primary guidance for title links and snippets and meta descriptions.

Site name, favicon, URL path, and date

A preferred site name is selected automatically from home-page and web signals; WebSite structured data is the primary way to indicate a preference. A favicon is also not guaranteed and applies at the hostname level. The preview’s colored glyph is merely a compact stand-in—it does not validate an image, crawlability, sizing, stability, or appropriateness.

Google may show a byline date when useful and determines it from several page signals. Use a real publication or significant-update date, make it visible, keep markup consistent, and do not use a future date. A display path may differ from the entered or canonical URL.

Read Google’s guidance for site names, favicons, and byline dates.

Limitations and privacy

  • This is not a live Google result, scraper, indexability checker, structured-data validator, ranking score, CTR estimate, or rewrite detector.
  • Typography, bold query matches, experiments, locale, device width, result features, dates, favicons, site names, and snippet sources may differ in Search.
  • The checker cannot verify page content, metadata already published, heading consistency, uniqueness, canonicalization, robots controls, crawl status, indexing, or Search Console data.
  • All analysis, preview rendering, code formatting, and copying occur in the current browser tab. No input is transmitted or persisted by the tool.
